On July 2, 2038, an annular, or "ring of fire," solar eclipse will occur in South America, the Caribbean, and Africa. In South America, the path of annularity will cross over Colombia and Venezuela. In the Caribbean, the path of annularity will cross over Grenada and Barbados. In Africa, the path of annularity will cross over Western Sahara (Morocco), Mauritania, Mali, Algeria, Niger, Chad, Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia. The maximum duration of annularity for this eclipse will be 1 minute. The maps below show the path of annularity over South America, the Caribbean, and Africa. To experience the annular, or "ring of fire," phase of the eclipse, you must be located within the path of annularity represented on the maps below. Areas outside the path of annularity will get a partial solar eclipse only.

In the U.S., a partial solar eclipse will occur in all or parts of Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Vermont, and West Virginia.
